• The English subjunctive

      English has a restricted (but not uncommon) use of the subjunctive mood. The subjunctive mood is often used to describe hypothetical situations in the form  of ‘If… then…’ statements, or to make recommendations.

      If the mosquito were eradicated, then malaria would not be a concern.

      We recommend that mosquito control measures be implemented.
